Hypothermia listed as cause of death for man whose body was found in RV

Last May, the body of Anoka resident Kevin Casserly was found in the cargo bin of an RV that had been rented by a group of men traveling to a bachelor party. Casserly, 22, had been missing for six months at the time.

Now, the Pioneer Press reports one more piece of information about Casserly's death has been revealed. The Olmsted County Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of Casserly's death to be hypothermia.

The autopsy does not resolve the question of whether Casserly was killed; it lists the manner of his death as 'undetermined,' according to Cmdr. Paul Sommer with the Anoka County Sheriff's Department. He said the possibility of Casserly's death being a homicide has not been ruled out.

Casserly's body was spotted in the RV's storage compartment while the vehicle was stopped in Winona. The occupants were on their way to the Kentucky Derby in Louisville when they stopped and made the discovery. They had rented the RV from a private party in Anoka, who was later determined to have had no role in Casserly's disappearance. At the time, investigators said it would take several weeks for the toxicology reports to be complete.

The Associated Press reports that Casserly's family reported last speaking with him Nov. 11, 2013. His mother found his apartment door ajar with his wallet and cell phone still inside the following day.

In the weeks after he vanished, parties of up to 120 people searched in parks and wooded areas in the Anoka area as well as the Coon Rapids Dam, the Anoka County Fairgrounds, Greenhaven Golf Course in Anoka and along the Mississippi and Rum rivers.

The father of two had a criminal record and had struggled with an addiction to methamphetamines. His family and friends said he had been working to change his life at the time he disappeared.
