Fatal crash that closed northbound I-35 caused when SUV crossed median

The crash that closed I-35 northbound south Hinckley Friday left one dead and two with life threatening injuries.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the incident Friday afternoon happened when a Mitsubishi Endeavor traveling southbound crossed the median and crashed into a Kia Sportage going northbound.

The collision killed the driver of the Kia, a 45-year-old man from Garfield.

The driver and passenger of the Mitsubishi both sustained life threatening injuries. The driver, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

The passenger, a 36-year-old man, was taken to North Memorial Hospital. 

Pictures from the crash showed a Life Link III helicopter at the scene.
