Another weekend is upon us and with it comes more orange cones and detour signs in the Twin Cities.
The biggest construction travel headache this weekend will be courtesy of the 35@94: Downtown to Crosstown in Minneapolis project.
At 10 p.m. Friday, southbound I-35W will be closed between I-94 and Hwy. 62 and stay that way through 5 a.m. Monday.
The detour will incorporate I-394, Hwy. 100 and Hwy. 62.
But as soon as the closure reopens on Monday morning, with it will come the reopening of one lane of traffic into downtown Minneapolis on I-35W northbound at 11th and Grant Streets.
That means a straight shot into downtown is possible again for the first time in months.
In addition, the ramp from westbound I-94 to I-35W south reopens on Monday morning.
Other weekend, long-term closures:
- The ramp from 46th Street to southbound I-35W will be closed from 5 a.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday.
- Beginning 8 p.m. Friday, the ramp from westbound Hwy. 10 to Hwy. 65 in Blaine will be closed through 8 p.m. Sunday. In addition, the right lane of westbound Hwy. 10 will be closed between Airport Road and the ramp from Hwy. 65 to westbound Hwy. 10. That closure is in effect from 8 p.m. Friday through 3 p.m. Monday.
- Work on southbound I-35W on Minnesota River Bridge has lanes reduced from four to three between 106th Street and Cliff Road. That'll last through the summer of 2021. That project also has the ramp from 106th Street to southbound I-35W closed until summer 2021.
