I-494 ramp shutdown in Bloomington was because of... a blood spill?
Well, if you didn't know tanker trucks drove around carrying gallons and gallons of blood, you do now.
One such tanker just happened to disrupt traffic on the I-494 Friday afternoon, when its crimson cargo somehow leaked onto the highway.
As a result, authorities closed a ramp in Bloomington near Nicollet Avenue while crews worked to contain the blood spill:
The above tweet from the Bloomington Fire Department describes the stuff as "rendering blood" from an animal rendering company; in other words, it's nothing weird. The blood here is simply a byproduct of the slaughtering process, which ends up being used in a wide variety of industrial and consumer products.
Authorities did not disclose how exactly the tanker sprung a leak.
