Slick commute: Dozens of crashes on slippery highways mars morning drive

Monday evening's snow, combined with sub-zero overnight temperatures made for a treacherous morning commute Tuesday.

Many roads in the metro and southern Minnesota were listed as partially covered with snow and slippery, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, which led to numerous accidents, including a few multi-car crashes, which slowed the morning drive for many.

Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Tiffani Nielson tweeted that of the reported injuries, none were serious or fatal.

A pileup involving a semitrailer and more than a dozen other vehicles closed the ramp from southbound Highway 280 to eastbound Interstate 94 just before 5:30 a.m. MnDOT notes, and the area was cleared shortly after 6:15 a.m., the Pioneer Press says.

There were also two multi-car crashes on Highway 10 Tuesday morning. At University, a Coon Rapids police cruiser was involved in a crash with up to four other vehicles, which closed the westbound lanes of the highway, the Star Tribune said. And at Highway 10 and Ferry Street in Anoka, a multi-car crash with injuries was reported.

Here's a look at other incidents on the roads in the metro area:
