In Dinkytown redevelopment, Al's Breakfast will be spared

Rumors about a looming redevelopment in Dinkytown have put Al's Breakfast in peril, but we can all breathe easy: The tiny but legendary breakfast nook is going nowhere.

That's according to the Star Tribune's, which gets a hold of the building's landlord.

“I told those guys that they can be there for as long as they want to be there,” Paul Dzubnar tells the paper. “They are unbelievable tenants. Al’s is an institution, and I feel so blessed to have them there. I have no plans to move them, ever.”

Strolling around Dinkytown these days, people aren't sure what to believe. At issue is a big project spearheaded by Opus Development Co., which has plans for changes on the block that houses Al's. Al's and some other businesses will be spared.

But the House of Hanson , a sort of corner store, will be gone, as the Strib notes, along with the Podium music store and the Book House.

In fact, the proposed changes are still pretty striking, as this "Save Dinkytown" web site attests.
