The Polk County Wisconsin Sheriff's Office says the infant, Ayidden Stream, was a passenger in an SUV that was traveling on a highway near Apple River last Wednesday afternoon.

The SUV left the roadway at a "steep embankment" and broke through a thin layer of ice, landing in the water.

Terry and Pamela Blegen were traveling along the highway and saw the splash – while Pamela called 911, Terry got into the water to help. The SUV sank, and settled with the driver's side down and the passenger side sticking out of the water.

Two others passing by – Thomas Cole and Shawn Spafford – joined the effort, and managed to rescue the driver, Nycole Stream, and a 16-year-old passenger, Krystyna Walenczak, who were struggling to stay above the water.

They then learned about the infant, who was submerged in the vehicle, and all three continued to search the water until the boy was found and pulled out.

He was unresponsive, but rescuers managed to revive him.

All three were taken to Amery Hospital, but the infant was later taken to Children's Hospital in St. Paul. According to an email received by BringMeTheNews, the Polk County Sheriff says Nycole Stream, the boy's mother, told them her son is "ok" and back at home.
