Inmate at Hennepin County Jail dies in 'apparent suicide'

He died on Thursday, almost a week after being found unresponsive.

An inmate at Hennepin County Jail died on Thursday, six days after being found unresponsive in his jail cell.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office describes the 23-year-old man's death as "an apparent suicide," with the inmate found in his cell at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, during a routine health and wellness check.

CPR was carried out on the inmate, who was housed in a cell on his own, before he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

The sheriff's office says the man was being held on a felony probation violation.

His identity will be released at a later date by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, which will also rule on his cause of death.

His death will also be reviewed by the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
