An inmate at St. Louis County Jail died after collapsing on Thursday morning.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says that Kenneth Kyle Beaupre, 32, was in the day room area of the jail at 7:50 a.m. when he collapsed.

Corrections officers, jail medical staff and first responders performed life-saving measures but were unable to revive him.

He was pronounced dead at 8:45 a.m.

Beaupre, of Rockford, was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for a post mortem exam.

Preliminary results suggest he had inflammation and infection of his heart valves, an infection of his lungs, and possible sepsis.

It's not clear for what reason Beaupre was being held in jail.
