A man convicted of attempted murder fled from the courtroom where his trial was held and escaped into the streets of downtown Minneapolis Thursday.

The sheriff's office announced that 25-year-old Michael David Henderson escaped from the Hennepin County Government Center. Late Thursday authorities announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

The sheriff's office says Henderson now has shorter hair than he did when his mug shot (above) was taken. He's described as 5'7" tall, weighing 154 pounds. He was wearing a maroon shirt, dark colored dress pants, and black dress shoes at the time of his escape, authorities say.

Henderson was convicted in the March armed robbery of a Bloomington supermarket where he had worked, the Associated Press reports.

Sheriff's department spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson tells the AP Henderson made a break for the exit while the verdict convicting him was being read. There was a scuffle with some deputies, one of whom was injured.

WCCO reports deputies are on hand for about 35,000 court appearances per year at the Government Center.

Henderson is considered dangerous. As the Star Tribune reports, the sheriff's office is asking anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to call 911 or 763-525-6216. His last address was in the 2300 block of Harriet Ave. South, the Star Tribune says.

The newspaper posted the criminal complaint against Henderson, which includes attempted murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault charges stemming from the March 25 incident at Sam's Club.
