Isaac Kolstad completes rehab program; suspect's trial begins in December

Isaac Kolstad is done with a six-month rehab program.

KARE 11 reports the former MSU Mankato football player – who was left in a coma, fighting for his life after a fight outside a Mankato bar nearly 18 months ago – completed a rehabilitation course at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute.

KSTP says the husband and father of two was there for six months, working on redeveloping his concentration and communications skills. It's part of the institute's Community Reintegration Program, for people who have suffered brain injuries.

"I'm super proud of him," his wife Molly Kolstad told the station.

This past spring, essentially one year after the confrontation that left him on the edge of death, Kolstad surprised supporters by running a 5K.

Two people were charged in connection with the assault.

Former Gophers quarterback Philip Nelson pleaded guilty in March, and won't serve jail time.

And in August, 22-year-old Trevor Shelley asked to have the felony assault charges against him dismissed. His trial is set to start Dec. 14, KEYC reported.
