It might get up to 50 degrees on Friday

Record-breaking temps are possible.

This may make Wednesday's bitter-cold temperatures not seem so bad.

The forecast shows it could get up to 50 degrees on Friday as an area of high pressure moves into the region.

The National Weather Service says highs Friday will be in the lower 30s in northern Minnesota and the middle to upper 40s in southern Minnesota, with a few places in southwestern Minnesota possibly hitting the 50-degree mark.

Temperatures like this will be close to breaking some records, but the National Weather Service says we'll probably come up just short of the record high of 49 degrees set in the Twin Cities back in 1877. The record high in St. Cloud for Friday is 47, set in 1977.

Friday's warm temps are also on trend with the warmer-than-average winter we've been having in Minnesota this year. The weather service says this winter is in the "mild" category:

As for this weekend's forecast, temperatures will drop back into the 30s. There will be a few chances for some snow showers, but no major accumulation is expected, the weather service says.

The average high for this time of year in Minneapolis is in the upper 20s, AccuWeather says.
