It's 'very difficult to impossible' to drive in parts of NW MN right now

There's a blizzard warning for the area until Monday night.

Travel has been "very difficult to impossible" in northwestern Minnesota Monday because of high winds and blowing snow.

The western edge of the Minnesota border, from about Rothsay north, is under a blizzard warning until 7 p.m. Monday because of the awful conditions. That's where the "very difficult to impossible" warning comes from. It also stretches into larges areas of North Dakota.

The nearby Grand Forks area had only recorded about 3.3 inches of snow from Sunday into Monday morning, and about an inch more was expected. But the winds – gusting up to 45 mph – were blowing so much around, that it made visibility near zero in rural areas.

Sgt. Jesse Grabow with the Minnesota State Patrol has been taking photos occasionally throughout the day, to show people what residents in the area are facing:

MnDOT is telling people to not travel in the area – specifically Highway 75 from the northern border down to about Perley, plus most of the highways that intersect with it along that stretch. The main roads in and out of Crookston for example are all labeled "Travel not advised."
