Jeep flies 130ft through the air in Stearns County crash

A driver and passenger were lucky to escape without life threatening injuries after a major crash Stearns County.

The sheriff's office said the Thursday incident happened at the intersection County Road 1 and 411th Street in Brockway Township, about a mile-and-a-half northeast of St. Stephen.

The spectacular crash saw a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee veer off the right side of the road and hit a mailbox before going into a ditch.

It then hit a road approach at 411th Street, sending it 130 feet through the air before crashing into another ditch, rolling and coming to a stop against some trees.

The passenger, a 27-year-old man from Becker, Minnesota, was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with injuries not thought to be life threatening.

There were no reported injuries to the driver, a 28-year-old woman from Mora, Minnesota.

The crash is under investigation by the sheriff's office, with Sartell PD, St. Stephen Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance assisting at the scene.

There have been more than 100 crash deaths on Minnesota roads so far this year.
