Jesse Ventura fires back at SEAL's bar fight allegation

Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura has fighting words for a former Navy SEAL in a new court document that stems from an incident in a California bar six years ago. The former SEAL Chris Kyle says Ventura was insulting and deserved the punch Kyle gave him. Ventura sued Kyle for defamation, saying he has the story all wrong – a "complete fabrication" and "a vicious, deliberate and calculated assault on his character, honor and reputation," Ventura's new filing says.

Jesse "The Body" Ventura snapped back from the ropes on Wednesday and again denied allegations that he had been decked in a 2006 bar fight by Chris Kyle, a highly decorated ex-Navy SEAL and author, the Star Tribune reports.

At issue is a fight at a California bar. Kyle says he and other SEALs were gathered to mourn fallen comrades, and he says Ventura was insulting and deserved a punch that Kyle gave him.

Ventura, in new documents says he sued for defamation because "the alleged incident described in Kyle's book is a complete fabrication and is a vicious, deliberate and calculated assault on his character, honor and reputation that is intended to turn the SEAL and military community, and Americans in general, against him and to cause them to have contempt, scorn, disgust and hatred for him," the Star Tribune reports.

The 30-page salvo from Ventura's lawyers on Wednesday came one day after Kyle's legal team filed fresh documents of their own in the case, the Star Tribune reported.

The Pioneer Press also has more background on the story.

Ventura recently released a new book that slams both political parties. He's also the host of "Conspiracy Theory" on Tru TV:
