The man accused of spraying cars with bullets in Oakdale and killing a 9-year-old boy, on Friday was ruled by a judge to be incompetent to stand trial.

A mental health evaluation presented in court in March found Nhan Tran incompetent to stand trial. On Friday, Washington County District Court Judge Gary Schurrer effectively put the case against him on hold, the Star Tribune reports.

Tran, 34, faces six felony counts after the Feb. 11 shooting rampage in Oakdale. The Star Tribune reports Tran now will be taken to the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter, where he will receive treatment that could eventually make him competent to participate in his defense at a criminal trial.

Tran has told investigators that he started shooting because he was upset with car noise.

Another hearing has been scheduled for November.
