July frost and sub-freezing temps in northern Minnesota

Some Minnesotans had to scrape their car windows Thursday morning.

After a blistering-hot June and a few 90-degree days in the first week of July, summer has been a scorcher by Minnesota standards. But good ol' Mother Nature gave northern Minnesota a reminder of cooler times with some weather whiplash Thursday morning as temps plummeted to record lows.

The low temp in Hibbing dipped to 34 degrees, setting a record for the date. It dropped all the way to 30 in Brimson, a small town located 45 miles north of Duluth.

Vehicles parked outside overnight were covered in frost in many locations, according to KBJR.

In short, almost everyone in northern Minnesota woke up to very chilly temps, though the forecast called for daytime highs in the 70s.

According to Novak Weather, Minnesota will continue to be dominated by a cool, cry Canadian airmass through the weekend. Temps are then expected to warm up, possibly hotter than usual, at some point next week.
