Two carjacking suspects were arrested early Monday morning following a chase that went through Brooklyn Park.

According to the Brooklyn Park Police Department, at about 3 a.m. deputies with the Anoka County Sheriff's Office were pursuing a vehicle that was wanted in connection with a carjacking out of Minneapolis.

The pursuit entered Brooklyn Park, with the vehicle stopping in the area of Pearson Parkway and 83rd Avenue. The driver then fled on foot.

Deputies used a K9 and a State Patrol helicopter in their search, with the Brooklyn Park PD setting up a perimeter. The suspect was eventually located hiding in a trash can near Pearson Parkway and 83rd Avenue and was taken into custody.

During the search for the initial suspect, Brooklyn Park police noticed a suspicious vehicle driving in the area. Police attempted to make contact with the vehicle, which had been stolen, but it fled "at a high rate of speed."

Police didn't pursue the suspect, but the State Patrol helicopter tracked the vehicle from the air before it crashed in Brookdale Park. That driver also fled on foot, but the man was located and arrested.

According to KSTP, there's been a spike in carjackings in Minneapolis this month, with 19 carjackings reported since Oct. 14 with many of them happening in the Uptown area.
