The friends and family of Kira Steger got the chance to say their final goodbyes at a long-delayed funeral at the Catholic church in her hometown in Rothschild, Wis. on Saturday. Burial followed in a cemetery near Wausau.

Steger's husband Jeffery Trevino was convicted of second-degree murder earlier this month. Prosecutors told jurors that Trevino killed Steger because she was having an affair and was planning to divorce Trevino. Steger's body was recovered from the Mississippi River in May.

WCCO talked to Steger's younger sister Felicia Krejci, who said she holds her sister's memory. “Everywhere I go I can feel her there with me,” Krejci said.

KMSP quoted her obituary in the Wausau Daily Herald, which said that she "...left this world and went to heaven before her time on February 21, 2013."

Jeffery Trevino will be sentenced next month and could face at least 20 years in prison. His attorney has asked that the conviction be dismissed because there was an an insufficient legal basis for the verdict.
