Lexington man charged in fatal crash that killed Blaine woman

A northern metro man has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide in Anoka County in connection to a vehicle-pedestrian crash in Blaine on Dec. 6. 

A criminal complaint identities Matt W. Hastreiter, 42, of Lexington, as the driver of a vehicle that fatally a struck a woman on Naples Street just after 6 a.m. Dec. 6. Hastreiter stayed at the scene and officers detected a faint odor of alcohol on his breath. 

Hastreiter failed a field sobriety test and later registered a 0.117 blood-alcohol content in a preliminary breath test. He admitted to having eight shots of vodka the night prior and three additional shots of vodka the morning of the crash. 

The victim, identified as Sheryl A. Miller, 52, of Blaine, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The case remains in an active investigation by the Blaine Police Department, Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Anoka County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
