The St. Paul-based High School for Recording Arts (HSRA) is up for two NAACP Image Awards for "Royalty," their collaboration with Twin Cities gospel group Sounds of Blackness.

Nominated for Best Contemporary Song and Outstanding Group Duo Collaboration honors, the song will compete against Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Common, Bruno Mars, among others.

Composed by Sound of Blackness music director Gary Hines, "Royalty" was produced, engineered and recorded by students at HSRA. Several of them show up as actors and performers in the accompanying music video, and they performed the song with Sounds of Blackness at Mall of America last February.

The 2017 NAACP Image Awards, hosted by Anthony Anderson, will be broadcast live on TV ONE on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 8 p.m. CST.

According to City Pages, HSRA -- often dubbed "Hip-Hop High" -- has grown from a dozen kids to a bustling school of hundreds.

Here is a video detailing the school's history, narrated by founder David Ellis.
