A Little Falls man has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder after he admitted to shooting and killing two teenagers who allegedly broke into his home, the Star Tribune reported.

WCCO reported sheriff's deputies met 64-year-old Byron David Smith at his home on Friday afternoon and found the bodies of a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman in the basement.

Smith claims the two broke into his home on Thanksgiving.

"A person has every right to defend themselves and their homes, even employing deadly force if necessary,” Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel said. WCCO says the circumstances in this case may have gone beyond self defense.
