Lockdown ends in Blaine after police hunt 'armed and intoxicated man'

Blaine police says that the man who sparked an armed response and a lockdown at area schools on Monday was wanted in connection with a domestic violence report.

The victim told police that the man living at the house on the 9400 block of Monroe Street NE had left the property on foot armed with a handgun.

After a near four-hour search that led to local schools being locked down and residents told to stay indoors, police arrested the suspect and booked him into Anoka County Jail for second degree assault.

UPDATE 1:15 P.M. 

Schools are out of lockdown and the suspect has been arrested, Blaine police said in an update Monday afternoon.

Police in Blaine have locked down schools and told residents to stay in their homes as they search for an "armed and intoxicated man."

Blaine PD issued the alert just after 10:30 a.m., saying they're set up a perimeter around 9400 block of Monroe Street NE searching for the man.

He's described as white, aged 35, 5'10", bald and wearing a grey sweatshirt and red sweat pants. Anyone who sees him should call 911.

A K-9 unit and a police helicopter are involved in the search.

Schools locked down right now include Westwood Middle and Intermediate, Avail Academy, Blaine Human Services Center, Mary Ann Young Senior Center, University Ave Elementary.
