'Lots of damage': Car crashes into Minneapolis restaurant

A Minneapolis restaurant is faced with severe damage and some hefty cleanup after a car crashed through its front entrance early Saturday.

The crash happened around 4:15 a.m. at Tooties on Lowry, Minneapolis police told WCCO.

The restaurant's owners posted about the incident on its Facebook page, saying, "Lots of damage, and don't know when we will be able to re-open." The restaurant told BringMeTheNews none of its staff were injured.

Police say the car had actually been stolen.

According to the Star Tribune, a 24-year-old man told police the SUV was his, and that he'd been robbed at gunpoint just blocks away. The suspect then took off in his vehicle.

The suspect fled before authorities arrived. Police are investigating.

Not the first time

The restaurant's owners posted on Facebook that this isn't the first time a car has crashed into their building.

Manager Krissy Johnson told WCCO her family has owned the restaurant for almost three-decades, and another vehicle had crashed into the same area of the restaurant in April 2008.
