Lunds and Byerlys recalls fresh turkeys after noticing 'off-odor'

Lunds & Byerlys is recalling a selection of its fresh whole turkeys just days before Thanksgiving because they have an "off-odor."

The upscale Twin Cities grocery chain made the recall announcement Tuesday morning, affecting its "Fresh All-Natural Brined Whole Turkeys."

"Some of this year’s supply of our Fresh All-Natural Brined Whole Turkeys did not meet our quality standards as they had an off-odor," the company's statement said. "As a result, we have removed these turkeys from our store shelves."

The company says that while the odor has been noted in some of its products, "we have no knowledge of this product posing a health or safety risk."

The recall affects the following birds:

  • Lunds & Byerlys Fresh Brined Whole Turkey 10-14 pounds
    UPC 25222500000
  • Lunds & Byerlys Fresh Brined Whole Turkey 14-16 pounds
    UPC 25221500000
  •  Lunds & Byerlys Fresh Brined Whole Turkey 16-20 pounds
    UPC 25222600000
  • Lunds & Byerlys Fresh Brined Whole Turkey 20-24 pounds
    UPC 252216000000

Anyone who bought one of the turkeys between Nov. 18-23 should return them to any Lunds & Byerlys for a full refund.

The company has also said that none of its other turkeys – including its Cider Brined Turkey Breast – are affected by the withdrawal.

Anyone with questions should call 952-548-1400.
