Mack Motzko, the son of University of Minnesota men's hockey coach Bob Motzko, died in a car crash in Orono Saturday night.
The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of North Shore Driver and Bohns Point Road, according to reports. Two others were injured in the crash, those specifics have not yet been released by Orono Police Department.
The University of Minnesota Athletics Department issued a statement acknowledging the tragedy:
"We are devastated for Bob, Shelley, their family and all involved," said athletics director Mark Coyle. "This is an unimaginable tragedy, and we will do everything we can to support those affected. We ask for privacy for the families, as they mourn the loss of loved ones."

Motzko, 20, was a standout hockey player at St. Cloud Cathedral before joining Minnetonka High School in 2018, when his father was hired to coach the Gophers. Motzko played last season for the Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL and the New Mexico Ice Wolves in the NAHL.
"All of us up here in Duluth are deeply saddened to see this awful news. Coach Motzko, his family, and Mack’s friends and teammates are in our thoughts and prayers," the University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey program tweeted.
