Travelers in the Twin Cities can expect disruption this weekend thanks to a major closure on I-35W in south Minneapolis.
The interstate will close both directions between I-94 and the crosstown Hwy. 62 starting 10 p.m. Friday and lasting till 5 a.m. Monday.
There is also an overnight closure planned this Thursday at 10 p.m. till 5 a.m. Friday.
There will be nonstop construction on the interstate as crews try to get the required work done in time to re-open Monday, with residents living on either side of I-35W told to expect construction noise.
The closure is necessary so MnDOT can shift traffic to new lanes as it prepares to start work on northbound I-35W, as part of its massive reconstruction of the I-35W@94 Downtown to Crosstown project.
Ramp closures will start an hour before the closure of the interstate, with drivers detoured via I-94, I-394, Hwy. 100 and Hwy. 62.
