Mall of America planning 20th anniversary

The world-famous megamall is gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The mall is planning giveaways, free movies and a birthday party with 2,000 pieces of cake.

The Mall of America opened as the nation's largest retail and entertainment complex on Aug. 11, 1992.

The shopping mecca is planning a number of promotions to celebrate the 20-year milestone, including giveaways and a birthday party with 2,000 pieces of an 8-foot cake, the Associated Press reports.

Theaters at the Mall of America will show free movies daily from the year 1992 on Aug. 10-16.

The mall has been counting down 20 great moments in its history.
