The 19-year-old man who was seriously injured after 45-foot fall from the I-90 bridge construction site earlier this month is “getting stronger every day,” according to a spokesperson at Ames Construction.

On Nov.6, Logan Goodell of Wheeler, Wis., was installing concrete forms near the west bank of the Mississippi River for the new Dresbach Bridge when he fell into a cofferdam, a temporary enclosure that is pumped dry to expose the bottom of the river.

Goodell was trapped in the confined space until a rescue boat could reach him. He was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to his CaringBridge site, Goodell suffered a severe head injury and several broken bones, including a fracture to his neck.

After undergoing multiple surgeries and being heavily sedated in intensive care, Goodell began talking and stood up with the help of a walker last week. He's currently in the rehabilitation unit at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse.

"In the last couple days he has graduated from the walker to the cane," his CaringBridge site reads. "His rapid progress is just amazing everyone here."

The Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident. The La Crosse Tribune says the agency has up to six months to complete the investigation and determine whether there were any safety violations.

Goodell had been wearing a helmet and a safety harness when he fell.

Construction to replace the I-90 bridge began last year and is expected to be completed in 2016. The new crossing in Dresbach, Minn. is being built upstream of the existing I-90 bridge.
