The victim in Saturday's drowning incident on Middle Spunk Lake west of St. Cloud died Sunday at 12:45 a.m. at St. Cloud Hospital, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.
He has been identified as Steven Arnaz Boose. The 20-year-old from Chicago was in Minnesota visiting family, the sheriff's office said.
The drowning remains under investigation.
A 20-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition Saturday afternoon following a drowning incident in Stearns County.
According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to Middle Spunk Lake in Avon – west of St. Cloud – on a report of a possible drowning at 3:42 p.m..
The 911 caller reported that the 20-year-old went missing in the swim area of the lake.
A diver soon thereafter entered the water near the area where the 20-year-old had last been seen, and a short time later the diver resurfaced with the victim.
He was brought to shore and lifesaving efforts were performed before he was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital. He was in critical condition late Sunday night, the sheriff's office said.
3 water emergencies in St. Louis County
There were a trio of water emergencies in the northeastern Minnesota county on the Fourth of July, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reports.
Around noon, a 47-year-old man was injured by a tow rope while tubing on Bassett Lake in Bassett Township. He suffered non-critical injuries and was transported to a Duluth hospital for care.
At 1:30 p.m., a 65-year-old man was found unresponsive in Bear Island Lake near Babbitt. The sheriff's office said the man was trying to swim after a floating object in the water. Several people who found him performed CPR before he was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Ely, at which point he was conscious and alert.
At 2 p.m., a 69-year-old man required CPR after he jumped off a pontoon to swim in Pelican Lake in Orr. He too was alert and conscious when he was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Cook.
