Original story

A 20-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition Saturday afternoon following a drowning incident in Stearns County.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to Middle Spunk Lake in Avon – west of St. Cloud – on a report of a possible drowning at 3:42 p.m..

The 911 caller reported that the 20-year-old went missing in the swim area of the lake.

A diver soon thereafter entered the water near the area where the 20-year-old had last been seen, and a short time later the diver resurfaced with the victim.

He was brought to shore and lifesaving efforts were performed before he was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital. He was in critical condition late Sunday night, the sheriff's office said.

3 water emergencies in St. Louis County
