A 25-year-old man has died after his pickup truck was struck by a freight train in Perham, Minnesota.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office says the collision happened at 10:50 a.m. Thursday at a "stop sign-controlled" crossing west of Perham.

A Chevrolet Silverado driven by the Otter Tail County man was struck by an oncoming BNSF train.

The driver was killed in the impact. He has been identified as Derek Brehm, of Vergas, Minnesota.

"It's unclear as to why Brehm didn't see the oncoming train," the incident report says.

It was one of two train incidents in Minnesota on Thursday, with a pedestrian injured when they were struck by a train in Moorhead around 4:45 p.m.

The male victim was taken to Sanford Hospital with unknown injuries following the collision at a crossing near 1st Avenue and 11th Street North.
