A 26-year-old man attending a birthday party in central Minnesota collapsed and died shortly after an altercation with another guest.
The Stearns County Sheriff's Office said it was called to the Rock N River Event Center, just outside of Cold Spring in Wakefield Township, at 11:40 p.m. Saturday on a report of a man who was unconscious and not breathing.
While en route, they were told the man — identified as Saul Cano of Rockville — had resumed breathing, but when they got to the scene, he had stopped breathing again.
Lifesaving measures by the Cold Spring Police and the Fire and Rescue Squad were carried out, including the use of a defibrillator, but he died at the scene.
Officers investigating at the scene found out Cano had been involved in an altercation with another man before he'd become unresponsive.
"Witnesses indicated that there had been some pushing and some witnesses also stated that Cano had fallen to the floor," the Stearns County Sheriff's Office said.
"Cano and the other male had been separated and Cano had walked out to a patio area at the event center. Witnesses' statements indicate that sometime between 20-40 minutes later Cano became unresponsive."
The other man involved in the altercation has been arrested and is being held at the Stearns County Jail.
