One person riding with a group of motorcyclists died when he crashed at a curve in the road in St. Francis on Sunday evening.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, 27-year-old Eric R. Almquist, of Otsego, approached a curve on St. Francis Blvd. NW near the St. Francis Public Works facility when he lost control at a high rate of speed and crashed.

His motorcycle went into the ditch and Almquist "ultimately landed on the public works' property," the sheriff's office explained in a news release.

First responders attempted lifesaving efforts and transported Almquist via air support to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died.

No other motorcyclists were involved in the crash, which remains under investigation by the St. Francis Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.
