A Little Canada resident was shot on his driveway after approaching a stranger who was standing near his vehicle late Thursday night.

The 69-year-old victim went out to his driveway in the 3000 block of Rice Street upon seeing the stranger at around 11:15 p.m.

He said something to the man and then heard a gun click, before 6-8 shots were fired, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office

One shot struck the homeowner, but he was still able to get inside to call for help.

Before he was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, he was able to tell police that the shooter had fled on foot, heading northbound on Rice Street.

The suspect was described to police as a possible African-American male wearing a black mask over his face.

Deputies and a K9 unit searched the area but weren't able to locate the suspect.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Ramsey County Criminal Investigations Unit at 651-266-7320.
