Man accused of stalking popular radio host faces new charges

The Eden Prairie man charged with stalking a popular Twin Cities radio host faces new charges after trying to contact her multiple times this month.

The Pioneer Press reports Patrick Henry Kelly was arrested Tuesday after a judge said he violated the conditions of his pre-release ahead of August's trial, in which he was required to stay away from radio host Mary Lucia.

Kelly was charged with stalking in October after the DJ – on leave from The Current radio station as she deals with the case – told authorities he would not leave her alone despite a restraining order against him.

On Thursday, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office filed new charges against Kelly, MPR reports. According to the charges, Kelly sent LinkedIn requests to two of Lucia's coworkers; and on June 20, flowers and an envelope with a card – signed by Kelly – were left on Lucia's doorstep, the complaint says.

His trial on the initial stalking charges is set for Aug. 31.

Lucia announced in April she would be taking a leave from The Current while she dealt with the situation, writing in a letter posted online her life has been "a series of restraining orders, seemingly endless calls to 911, the installation of security cameras at home, and police photo ID line-ups.”

Lucia was one of the original DJs MPR hired when it launched The Current and she’d been on the Twin Cities’ airwaves for more than a decade before that.

The Justice Department’s Office on Violence Against Women estimates that as many as a quarter of American women – and one in every 13 men – will be victimized by stalking in their lifetime.

Their tips for those being stalked include keeping a record or log of every contact with the stalker and saving all notes, emails, and texts to be shared with police.
