An Apple Valley man has been charged with felony theft after being accused of stealing more than $113,000 from a youth athletic association he co-founded, KSTP reports.

Robert Steven Reischauer was charged Thursday with five counts of felony theft in connection with the loss of approximately $113,532 from the Rosemount Area Athletic Association (RAAA) between 2011 and 2013, according to the Dakota County Attorney's Office.

In a press release from the County Attorney's Office, the criminal complaint alleges Reischauer stole the money "by fraudulently writing checks to himself and paying for his PayPal and Amazon accounts with Association funds while he was employed as the finance manager for the RAAA."

RAAA President Heidi Kraemer tells KSTP that not a single child or team will be turned away because of the loss of the funds, and costs for playing will not be going up.

Kraemer tells the station that the association's members were "devastated" to find out Reischauer was charged. She says Reischauer is a co-founder of the association and has been a member of it for 27 years.

Kraemer also says "better checks and balances already in place" to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.

In the press release, Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom says the crime is the 14th case involving losses in excess of $100,000 charged in Dakota County since 2009.

"Financial crimes against organizations involving youth are especially troubling,” Backstrom says.

Reischauer is set to make his first court appearance in August.
