Man airlifted to Twin Cities hospital after falling out of moving vehicle

A young man was airlifted to the hospital after falling out of a moving vehicle last weekend. 

According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 on Rebel Road near Settler Trail in Merrifield, which is about 10 miles north of Brainerd. 

The sheriff's report, via the Brainerd Dispatch, says a 22-year-old Motley man riding as a passenger rolled down the window, sat in the window opening and fell backward out of the moving vehicle. He hit his head on the pavement and was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale for treatment. 

As of Thursday, the sheriff's office says the man remained in critical condition. 

A 20-year-old driving the vehicle was not injured. 

It is not clear how fast the vehicle was going at the time of the incident.
