Man arrested after chasing children while brandishing machete

The  incident happened in Waite Park.

Police in Waite Park say they have arrested a man after he brandished a machete and chased three children across a courtyard.

The incident was reported at 9:18 p.m. in the 200 block of 3rd Street South, where police were informed of a man who had been chopping a tree started chasing the group of kids.

As officers were on their way, dispatchers received a call from the suspect himself, who reported someone had pointed a gun at them on the same block.

It emerged that the suspect, a 28-year-old local man, had been chopping a tree with a machete in the courtyard for the past few days, and on Thursday reportedly stopped, looked at three kids playing, "raised the knife and started to chase them."

One of the kids told their dad, who confronted the suspect. While speaking with him, the father reached into his pocket and brandished a gun, saying he "became afraid."
