Man arrested for homicide over drive-by killing of 2-year-old boy
A man has been arrested on suspicion of homicide in the killing of a 2-year-old child in a drive-by shooting in north Minneapolis.
Minneapolis police announced that a 31-year-old from Circle Pines is currently in custody over the death of Le'Vonte King Jason Jones, who who shot at the intersection of Penn Ave. N and Lowry on July 8.
He has been booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center on probable cause murder.
Jones and his 15-month-old sister Melia were struck by bullets in a drive-by shooting at the intersection. His sister survived her injuries.
Their father, 25-year-old Melvonte Lee Peterson, of Brooklyn Center, fired shots from his own weapon during the altercation, hitting a nearby hardware store.
He has since been charged in connection with the shooting, as well as for firearms possession.
Peterson and the latest man arrested – who BringMeTheNews will not be identifying until he is charged – are believed to be known to each other.
Two-year-old Jones' funeral was held at the Bethel Christian Fellowship Church in St. Paul last Friday.
