Man arrested for kidnapping woman after standoff in Bloomington
Bloomington police say a kidnapping suspect would not let officers check on a woman, nor would he allow her to leave, during an hourslong standoff that started early Thursday.
Police were called to the 1300 block of East 78th Street around 2:42 a.m. on a welfare check, with a woman "asking for help," according to a news release. When they arrived, they tried to make contact with the people inside.
They spoke to a man who would not answer the door and refused to let officers check on the welfare of the woman, a 42-year-old from Minneapolis. He also would not allow the woman to leave., according to the release.
After several hours of "sporadic communication," Bloomington PD said officers "were able to safely reunite the victim" with her family.
Police arrested the suspect, a 37-year-old man from North Dakota. He's being help on suspicion of kidnapping, and for violating a domestic assault no contact order.
