According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, 34-year-old Thomas Wayne Matthews was arrested after attacking and assaulting several people inside and outside Big Winnie Bar in Bena just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Matthews, who lives in Bena, was then arrested in connection with the death of his mother, who body was found inside her home at 6:21 a.m. on Wednesday.

An investigation in the homicide is ongoing with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

BMTN doesn't usually name people who have been arrested until they're charged. However in this case, since the victim has been identified and the suspect is her son, we felt it necessary to identify him to avoid any case of mistaken identity.
