A man has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of a Minnesota native in Costa Rica.

Officials say a 24-year-old has been arrested in connection with the killing of Sondra Lynn Elizondo at a hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica, last week, reports say.

The Costa Rican Public Ministry told The Associated Press the suspect was involved in a romantic relationship with Elizondo, who is originally from Stewartville, Minnesota, but lives in Florida.

Q Costa Rica reports authorities believe their relationship had gone sour, with the Mail Online saying the Costa Rican native stabbed Elizondo 15 times "in a jealous rage."

The Public Ministry told the AP the suspect was arrested Dec. 10, and has been ordered to remain in jail for six months while officials investigate Elizondo's killing.

Elizondo co-founded Vida Volunteer, a Florida-based organization that sets up mobile health and veterinary clinics in Central American countries, and often traveled to Costa Rica for work, the University of St. Thomas said in a news release about her death.
