A southern Minnesota man was seriously burned after the wheelchair he was in tipped over into burning debris.

It happened Tuesday afternoon at around 4:30 p.m. The Brown County Sheriff's Office said in an email news release the 73-year-old was in rural Sleepy Eye. He was burning leaves and debris at the time – that's when his wheelchair tipped.

He was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis to be treated for burns. His condition wasn't given.

We've reached out to the sheriff's office for more information.

Burning leaves right now

The Minnesota DNR had been warning people of dangerous fire conditions because things were so dry and breezy. That danger has been lowered – it was anywhere from high to very high last week, and is now between low and high. See the current map here.

WCCO reported a man in Andover was injured recently when he was trying to burn lawn debris, and the fire spread.
