Man dies after being hit by freight train in Cass County

He was reportedly walking alone the tracks at the time.

A man has died in west of Pillager, Minnesota, after being hit by a freight train.

The incident happened at 7:23 a.m. Saturday in Cass County, when police received a report of a train hitting a person who was walking on the track in May Township, west of Brainerd.

When responders arrived, they learned the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) was eastbound when it hit the 36-year-old man, of address unknown, who died at the scene.

Another man, aged 50, was also seen in the area by train crew, and was later found by police and treated for minor injuries at Brainerd Hospital.

The victim's identity has not been released at this stage. The incident remains under investigation.
