Man dies after 'physical confrontation' outside St. Paul bar

A fight outside a bar in downtown St. Paul Saturday night left one person dead from an apparent head injury. 

Saint Paul police responded to several 911 calls it received around 11:35 p.m. Saturday  reporting an assault of a 48-year-old man who was found on the pavement suffering from an apparent head injury outside of Herbie's On The Park, next to Rice Park.

The man was taken to Regions Hospital in critical condition. He died around 3 p.m. Sunday, police said. 

Police were informed by witnesses that the man fell and hit his head during a "physical confrontation" on the steps outside Herbie's.

Another man involved in the incident fled the scene but has been identified by police. 

No arrests have been made as police continue to investigate.

The victim's identity and cause of death will be released at a later stage by the medical examiner.
