A man has died after being assaulted in the Marcy Holmes neighborhood of Minneapolis early Wednesday morning.
Police were called to 7th Street SE and 5th Avenue SE at 4:30 a.m., after a report of a man in shorts lying in the roadway.
Upon arriving, police found an injured man believed to be in his 30s.
Officers gave first aid until paramedics arrived and took him to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died later Wednesday morning.
A homicide investigation has been launched, with officers having spoken to several people in the area in the wake of the incident. At this stage, police have not said if they have any suspects.
Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Police have recently pledged to improve safety in the Marcy-Holmes area after a couple of high profile incidents in recent months: an attempted abduction of a U of M student in September, and a sexual assault in August.
Despite this, KARE 11 reports that Minneapolis' 2nd Precinct area, which includes Marcy-Holmes, is the safest in the city, with 262 violent crimes reported in 2019 as of mid-September.
