A man is dead following what's been described as a water emergency on a popular lake in northeast Minnesota.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, deputies and the county rescue squad were dispatched to Norwegian Bay on Lake Vermilion – about 10 miles northeast of Cook – after a passing boat saw a man slumped over the side of a boat and in the water near the shore.
First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. The man has been identified as Roy Larson, 59, of New Prague.
No further information has been released and an investigation is ongoing.
Water emergency deaths in June
This is at least the fourth death on a Minnesota waterway since the beginning of June.
Prior to that, a young boy died while swimming with friends on the South Shore of Lake Superior.
