A 31-year-old man from Superior, Wisconsin, died Wednesday while attempting to rescue two young children who were struggling in a river.
The drowning incident happened around 1:55 p.m. in the St. Louis River near Boy Scout Landing in rural Duluth, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
"It was learned that two children, ages 5 and 8 appeared to be struggling in the water," the sheriff's office said in a release. "Bystanders in the area successfully saved both children."
While attempting to rescue the kids, Kevin Ingles went below the surface of the water and did not resurface. His body was recovered following an "extensive search and rescue effort," the sheriff's office said.
There are multiple social media posts that one of the children Ingles was attempting to rescue was his daughter.
