Man dies in apparent drowning at Lake Burgen in Alexandria

The 49-year-old's body was recovered in about 10 feet of water.

A man died in an apparent drowning accident in west-central Minnesota Tuesday evening.

According to a release from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the fatal incident happened around 5:25 p.m. on Lake Burgen on the southeast side of Alexandria.

A 911 caller was "distraught" when they called from the public access to the lake, the release says, adding that authorities were informed at the scene that a 49-year-old man had gone underwater and didn't resurface.

The man's body was recovered by the Douglas County Dive Team in about 10 feet of water, approximately 50 feet from shore.

Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead.

The only information about the victim at this point is that he was a 49-year-old man from Lowry, Minnesota (southwest of Alexandria). Full identification will be released pending notification of his family.

The incident remains under investigation.

Also responding to the scene was North Ambulance and LifeLink III Air Ambulance.
