Man escapes detention center, prompting search in downtown Minneapolis

There was a flurry of police activity in downtown Wednesday morning.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office reports that Michael Simon has been caught.

He was apprehended by officers in Little Canada at 10 a.m., having been missing since escaping a detention center in downtown Minneapolis at 7 a.m.

Police officers and sheriff's deputies were scrambled into action in downtown Minneapolis Wednesday morning when a suspect escaped a detention center.

Michael Simon, 57, has been held in the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center since Sept. 25 on suspicions of card fraud and a Department of Corrections hold for burglary.

At around 7 a.m., the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said he escaped from the detention center in downtown Minneapolis.

It prompted a flurry of law enforcement activity across downtown as they conducted a coordinated search for him.

As of 10 a.m., he has still not been caught, and the public is being asked to help find him.
